Booko needs no account. Your notes and thoughts stay on your device and are never uploaded to a Booko server.
Stored on your device
- You can use Booko without signing in.
- Your notes are stored on the current device.
- Deleting Booko also deletes the notes on that device. Before you delete it, turn on iCloud sync or export a backup.
For the full details, see the privacy policy.
iCloud sync (Pro)
With Pro, turn on iCloud sync in Booko’s settings. Your notes stay the same on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac through your own iCloud account.
Before you turn it on, check that:
- every device is signed in to the same Apple Account;
- iCloud access for Booko is on in the system settings;
- the device is online and has enough iCloud storage.
The first sync takes a while. If you have many notes, keep Booko open for a bit longer. You can keep using Booko while it syncs.
Turning sync off
Turn off iCloud sync in Booko’s settings. Do not turn off Booko’s iCloud access in the system settings.
If you turn off the access in the system settings while sync is on, the system immediately deletes Booko’s data on that device, and Booko cannot stop it. If you turn off sync in Booko first, all your data stays on the device.
Backup
Even with iCloud sync on, keep a backup of your own:
- Export as Markdown: in Booko, choose Export as Markdown to save a book or selected notes as a file.
- Device backup: an iCloud or computer backup of your iPhone or iPad includes Booko’s data.
Moving to a new device
Install Booko on the new device, sign in to the same Apple Account, turn on iCloud sync, and wait for your notes to arrive. If sync was never on for the old device, turn it on there first and let it finish.
