Privacy Policy

Booko ("the App") is a reading highlights app developed by jiayifun ("we", "us", or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use Booko.

Data We Collect

Booko has no user accounts and does not upload your personal profile or content data to our own servers. Your books, reading highlights, notes, imported book covers, and preferences are stored locally, except when you choose to use iCloud sync or the optional WeRead Skill connection described below.

Purchase transaction information is processed by Apple and RevenueCat as described in the In-App Purchases and RevenueCat section below.

Data stored on your device

Your reading highlights, notes, book information, imported book covers, display preferences, and optional WeRead Skill API key are stored locally on your device.

The WeRead Skill API key is stored in the device Keychain and is not synced through iCloud by Booko.

Booko does not upload this data to our own servers. It may leave your device through iCloud sync if you enable it, or when you intentionally use the optional WeRead Skill connection.

iCloud Sync

If you have iCloud enabled, Booko uses Apple's iCloud service to sync your data across your devices.

Synced data may include your reading highlights, notes, book information, imported book covers, and display preferences.

This data is stored in your personal iCloud account and is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.

We do not have access to your iCloud data.

Optional WeRead Skill Connection

Booko includes an optional client-side connection to the official WeRead Skill gateway. It is used only after you independently obtain an API key from WeRead, enter it in Booko, and initiate a connection, search, cover lookup, or import.

The API key is stored locally in the device Keychain. Booko does not upload it to our own servers or sync it through iCloud.

For an action you initiate, Booko sends the API key and the request needed for that action directly from your device to the official WeRead gateway. Request data may include a search term, book identifier, pagination information, and the WeRead Skill version. The gateway may return book metadata, cover addresses, your notebook book list, reading progress, highlights, and thoughts.

When importing from Apple Books or Kindle, Booko asks each time before using WeRead to match covers. If you choose “Import and Match Covers,” the relevant book titles and authors are sent directly from your device to the official WeRead gateway for search and cover retrieval. If you choose “Import Only,” that information is not sent to WeRead for cover matching.

The Developer does not operate a proxy for these requests and does not receive the API key, request data, or returned WeRead data on its own servers. Data you choose to import is saved into Booko data on your device and may sync through your personal iCloud account if you enable iCloud sync.

You can clear the WeRead Skill API key in Booko settings at any time. WeRead's processing of requests is governed by its own terms and privacy practices.

Analytics

We may use Apple's built-in App Analytics to understand general usage trends (e.g., number of installs, crash reports).

This data is collected and anonymized by Apple. We do not receive any personally identifiable information.

RevenueCat provides purchase analytics based on App Store transaction information. We do not use RevenueCat for advertising or cross-app tracking.

Clipboard Access

Booko offers an optional clipboard reading feature to quickly import reading notes. This feature is disabled by default and only becomes active after you manually enable it.

When enabled, clipboard content is first recognized locally and is not automatically imported or sent to an external service. If recognized content is shown in the import screen, transmission occurs only if you subsequently choose an external action such as WeRead cover matching, in which case the WeRead disclosure above applies.

You can disable this feature at any time in the App's settings.

Data We Do Not Collect

We do not collect or store the following data on our own servers:

• Personal information (name, email, phone number).
• Location data.
• Device identifiers for tracking purposes.
• Usage behavior or browsing history.
• Any content you paste, create, or import in the App.

Your Rights

Booko stores the content you create or import locally on your device:

• Access & export: Your highlights are stored on your device and can be viewed at any time within the app.
• Deletion: You can delete individual highlights in the app, or delete all data by uninstalling Booko from your device.
• iCloud sync control: You can disable iCloud sync at any time in your device's iCloud settings.
• WeRead key control: You can clear the optional WeRead Skill API key in Booko settings at any time.
• Content data: We do not provide your books, reading notes, email address, or other content you create to RevenueCat.

In-App Purchases and RevenueCat

Booko's in-app purchases are processed by the Apple App Store. We use the purchase management service provided by RevenueCat, Inc. to confirm purchase status, restore purchases, verify user entitlements, and analyze purchases.

In this process, Apple may send RevenueCat transaction-related information, such as the product purchased, transaction time, transaction identifier, purchase status, refund or revocation status, and an anonymous system-generated user identifier. Booko does not provide RevenueCat with your name, email address, contacts, books, reading notes, or other content you create.

RevenueCat processes this information on Booko's behalf to provide purchase validation, entitlement management, and purchase analytics. We do not use this information for advertising, and we do not use RevenueCat to track you across apps. For more information about how RevenueCat handles information, please see its Privacy Policy.

Third-Party Services

Apple iCloud: Used for data sync across your devices. Subject to Apple's Privacy Policy.

Apple App Store: Used for in-app purchases. Subject to Apple's Terms and Conditions.

RevenueCat: Used for purchase validation, entitlement management, purchase restoration, and purchase analytics. Subject to RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.

WeRead Skill gateway: Contacted directly from your device only when you configure the optional connection and initiate a related action. Subject to WeRead's own terms and privacy practices.

Children's Privacy

Booko is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date.
