Booko collects your highlights from reading apps, organizes them by book, and shows them to you in a widget for review. Booko runs on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. It needs no account, and your notes stay on your device.
1. Install Booko
Download Booko from the App Store. iPhone, iPad, and Mac download the same app, and you can start using it right away.
2. Import your first notes
On iPhone and iPad, tap the add button in the bottom bar and choose a source. On Mac, click the add button in the toolbar.
- Apple Books, Dedao, Douban Read, iReader: copy the notes in that app, then paste them into Booko.
- Kindle: choose the
My Clippings.txtfile from your Kindle. - WeRead: connect the WeRead Skill to import many books at once.
Booko recognizes the title and author and puts each highlight in the right book. See Import reading notes for the steps for each source.
3. Read notes by book
After the import, the books appear in your library. Open a book to see all of its highlights and thoughts. You can also search across all your books and notes.
4. Write down your own thoughts
In Booko, a thought is its own note. You can add it to a book or leave it unsorted.
You can also write without opening the app: use the Quick Note widget, the Control Center button, Shortcuts, or the share sheet. Booko saves these notes to the Inbox, and you can move them to a book or collection later. On Mac, press C to write a quick note.
5. Review your notes
Add the Booko Notes widget to your Home Screen, and it rotates through your notes. You can also open the Review tab and go through notes one at a time. See Widgets, Shortcuts, and Review.
6. Sync between devices (Pro)
With Pro, turn on iCloud sync in Settings, and your notes stay the same on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Without sync, your notes stay only on the current device. See Sync and backup.
The free plan stores up to 10 books and 1,000 notes.
